John Harrington Memorial Ride

The John Harrington Memorial Bike Ride is held each year in memory of John Harrington, an avid cyclist and firefighter. John died tragically on May 27, 2004 while riding his bicycle to work. His friends, colleagues and family honor his memory by raising funds annually to be contributed to a deserving cause. The 2012 charity is TBA soon.

The Ride

Each year this ride is held on Memorial Day weekend and retraces the route he rode to work. The 2012 ride will take place on May 27th. The ride begins at South Shore Park, continues to his duplex in Bayview, through downtown Milwaukee, along the lakefront, and ending at his assigned fire station in Shorewood. Many riders make the return trip to South Shore Park.

About John

John was an avid cyclist, musician, firefighter, adventurer, son, brother, nephew, cousin, friend, and genuine lover of life. Over the years many people have come out to ride and share their stories of how John had touched them in so many ways. In life John had a way of bringing people together and with this ride each year he continues to connect people from all facets of his life.

About the Ride

In 2011 over 100 riders came out to ride. The 2012 John Harrington Memorial Ride will take place on May 27th. This will mark the 8th anniversary and the 8th year we will we ride to honor John’s memory. The ride will begin at South Shore Park in Bayview at 10 AM. The ride is approximately 18 miles with several stops along the way including John’s duplex along KK, the Milwaukee Art Museum to allow all riders to catch up, John’s assigned fire station in Shorewood for some water and treats, and then many riders make the return trip to South Shore Park. After the ride we will meet at the Horny Goat Hideaway for lunch and refreshments. We hope you can join us!
